Crafting the Chino Hills French Residence – A Modern Interpretation of Timeless Elegance on a Hillside Canvas
Nestled in the rolling hills of Chino Hills, this newly constructed French-style residence is a two-story, single-family detached home offering 4,368 square feet of livable space, along with a 610-square-foot, three-car garage. This French-style residence strikes a delicate balance between two distinct sensibilities: the refined symmetry of classical French architecture and the modern romanticism favored by its owners.

Extensive site studies and topographic analysis informed a design that gracefully responds to the natural terrain. The massing minimizes excavation and fill, avoids excessive retaining walls, and eliminates the need for deep foundation work. This careful choreography of architecture and land ensures that the structure not only rests lightly on its site, but feels inextricably tied to it.

The architectural language draws from French traditions—arched openings, slender windows, and a monochromatic palette of black and white—to create a facade both classical and contemporary. Each design choice speaks to a deep respect for style, scale, and spatial harmony. Thoughtfully designed with a central axis, the home’s layout emphasizes order, clarity, and flow—anchored by a dramatic double-height foyer and sky-lit gallery corridor that welcomes both daylight and depth into the heart of the home.

Large-scale windows frame the surrounding landscape, blurring the line between interior and exterior. By day, the space is bathed in natural light; by night, the skylights above transform into portals to the stars, evoking a sense of wonder reminiscent of Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

More than a luxury home, this project embodies a shared dream—half starlit reverie, half grounded sanctuary. It is a space where architecture becomes deeply personal: shaped by the couple’s desire to merge romance with structure, elegance with ease. From the soaring foyer to the soft descent of the hillside terrain, every element was crafted to reflect not only aesthetic ambition, but emotional intention. This residence is a testament to the power of design to hold memory, imagination, and everyday life within the same frame—a timeless retreat that honors both the beauty of the land and the life unfolding within.
