Shekhter Residence
This residence is built along the natural slope of the hillside. During the design process, we carefully considered the topography and balanced the earthwork to ensure construction feasibility while reducing costs. Retaining walls were kept under 6 feet, minimizing the need for additional structural work, optimizing the budget, and reducing environmental impact.

Using the natural elevation changes of the site, we created a cascading, waterfall-like landscape that weaves down the slope, allowing the architecture to blend seamlessly with nature. The expansive terrace maximizes mountain views—whether it’s the morning sunlight or the glow of dusk, residents can enjoy stunning scenery right from home.

The house is organized with structural walls on the east and west sides, creating a column-free interior that greatly enhances spatial flexibility and comfort. This layout also reduces direct sightlines from neighboring properties, ensuring privacy. Even within open spaces, residents can enjoy a sense of tranquility and seclusion.
Due to FAR (floor area ratio) limitations and the homeowner’s functional needs, we strategically defined the basement as an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit). It includes a guest bedroom with a private entrance as well as a wine cellar, offering the homeowner additional flexible space. This approach meets regulatory requirements while enhancing the home’s value and versatility.
