Ramona Vineyard ADU - An Adaptive Reuse for Rest, Work, and Connection.

Set within the quiet expanse of a vineyard in Ramona, California, this adaptive reuse project transforms an existing RV garage into a thoughtfully designed accessory dwelling unit (ADU). Created as a communal space for Airbnb guests staying in nearby cabins, the project serves as a multifunctional hub—welcoming visitors to gather, cook, work, and relax amidst the tranquility of Southern California’s wine country.

The design merges hospitality and practicality, creating an open-plan interior that blurs the line between indoors and out. Sliding glass doors extend the living space into the landscape, framing panoramic vineyard views and drawing in ample daylight throughout the day. The shared kitchen, dining area, living room, and office nook are unified through a fluid layout that prioritizes comfort and adaptability.

The interior palette reflects a warm, grounded approach. Natural materials—light-toned woods, stone-textured surfaces, and earth-hued finishes—are combined with modern detailing to evoke a sense of understated elegance. The kitchen anchors the space with a striking contrast: matte black appliances and a brushed stainless steel range hood juxtaposed against soft white cabinetry and sculptural lighting. A central island doubles as a dining surface and food prep zone, inviting conversation and collaboration.

Attention to functionality is visible in every element. The office area is subtly recessed between the social zones, offering quiet without isolation. Fixtures and furnishings were selected not only for aesthetic clarity but also for durability, supporting the demands of short-term guests while maintaining a curated, home-like atmosphere.

Ultimately, this ADU is more than a conversion project—it’s a case study in how small interventions can yield outsized impacts. By reimagining an existing structure through the lens of hospitality and spatial harmony, the design offers a place that is as grounded as it is uplifting—tailored to both the rhythms of nature and the needs of modern travelers.
